As you all know, Hurricane Ike graced us with his presence early, early Saturday morning. Before Ike came, Kody and I, along with our friends Jason and Krystal (that evacuated to our house from south Houston) went outside to enjoy the winds that were forming and the amazing sunset. The sky was gorgeous! We did indeed ride out Ike at our house. We did not have a mandatory evacuation so we didn't see a need to leave. Plus keep in mind that we did not want to sit in traffic! The winds woke Kody and I up around 4 a.m. and we watched the crazy news reporters until 6:30 a.m. which was when we lost power. The winds were so strong and were making crazy sounds. It was quite scary! We are very thankful that our part of the neighborhood did not have a lot of damage. I guess we can thank our little bitty trees for that. The other part of the neighborhood with larger trees did not luck out so much. There was debris everywhere along with trees on homes. Our home stood strong other then a little water that seeped in through the door. We are very blessed and thankful!
It rained all day long on Saturday! When it finally died down, Kody started up the grill and he cooked a ton of chicken and corn on the cob. We are so thankful that we had the grill. It was a life saver! Thanks Wanda and Phil! We also cooked up the rest of the eggs and bacon Sunday morning so that we didn't have to throw them away! We definitely ate good!
Kody and I decided to head to Dallas on Sunday, because we had no idea when our power was going to be restored and we didn't want to sleep in the heat another night! Halfway to Dallas our neighbor called and said that we had power! Praise the Lord! We decided to go to Dallas anyway so that we could see everyone. Kody found out that he had to work on Tuesday, so it turned out to be a very short, but enjoyable trip! My school is closed for the week, so I am getting a mini vacation.
Last night Chelsea and Gregg stayed with us, because their apartment still does not have power. It was great to visit with them and to be able to provide a/c and a hot shower!
My parents that live in Sour Lake have been told that it may be October 1st before they receive power! Which also means no school for that amount of time as well!
Overall, this has been a crazy experience! Sorry for the ramble! Enjoy the pictures of the sky that God blessed us with before the storm!
